Becoming an editor

Are you interested in publishing your edition of sozialpolitik.ch? Then you can apply to do so. You can find out what your tasks as an editor are and how to become an editor here:

Let's assume you are planning an academic conference on a specific topic in the coming year and want to produce your publication in our journal. Or are you researching an important topic in the field of social policy and believe that the topic should be given broader attention with an issue in sozialpolitik.ch? Then you can apply for an issue.

Requirements:

  1. The topic must be in the field of social policy or social work. A special focus on Switzerland is desirable,
  2. You form an editorial team of two to three people,
  3. You are academics with relevant experience on the topic of the planned issue.
  4. You write an application of 3,000 to 5,000 characters and send it to redaktion@sozialpolitik.ch (all the year).

If your application is accepted, you will be assigned a free issue. This is usually at least two years in the future.

Your tasks as an editor are

  1. Acquisition of authors for at least 6 thematic contributions (via call for papers, conferences, lecture series, etc.)
  2. Applications for funding for editing, copy-editing, and translations (SNSF, DFG, learned societies or your university, etc.)
  3. Communication with the potential authors
  4. Selection of the submitted abstracts
  5. Screening of the articles
  6. Selection and acquisition of reviewers
  7. Writing the editorial for the issue
  8. Acknowledging the authors.
  9. Public relations work for the corresponding issue (placement in mailing lists, newsletters, reviews in the media, reviews, etc.)

You will be supported by our editorial team throughout the entire period. A lead editor will be appointed for your issue. Fundamental decisions are made jointly and by mutual agreement.

The publication of an issue of socialpolicy.ch incurs certain costs. These arise from the editorial work and proofreading of the texts. We therefore ask external editors to apply for financial support for a planned publication via our journal. Among others, the university's funding departments and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SAGW, SNF...) often offer support for scientific publications. If your efforts to obtain external funding have demonstrably been in vain, you can still contact us. We may be able to find an individual solution. An exception applies to articles in French: Here, the publisher is obliged to cover the costs, as we have to commission an external editor.
