Patchworkfamilien können als Beispiel für die Pluralisierung von Lebensformen betrachtet werden und zeichnen sich durch vielfältige und komplexe Familienstrukturen aus. Ziel dieses Beitrags ist zu untersuchen, wie das familiäre Zusammenleben organisiert ist und mit welchen potenziellen Herausforderungen die Familienmitglieder konfrontiert werden können. Neben der Verortung der Stellung von Patchworkfamilien innerhalb der Vielfalt familiärer Lebensformen in der Schweiz wird das charakteristische Profil von Patchworkfamilien im Rahmen gegenwärtiger familialer Lebensformen herausgearbeitet und deren gesellschaftliche Relevanz im Kontext sozialen Wandels zu beleuchtet.
