Abstract

The increasing flexibilization of work, both in terms of time and space, is accompanied by positive effects for employees as well as an intensification of working hours, longer working hours and a variety of burdens. In research on the organization of working hours, it is undisputed that both the intensification of working hours, long working hours and flexible working hours that are not designed in the interests of employees lead to short- and long-term negative consequences for employees and reduced recovery. Based on these findings, the articles in this volume take a look at current developments among employees and in companies. The focus is on the question of what supports employees in dealing with the demands of their work in a better and more sustainable way.
