Abstract

Various model projects at Berlin schools and public administration offices tested "day-time cleaning". The overall goal was to strengthen decent work conditions in public procurement. The practical experience gained within the framework of the City of Berlin funded project "Joboption Berlin", shows that what many thought was impossible, can actually work really well in practice. "Day-time cleaning" makes work more attractive. It improves cleanliness and promotes social integration in the workplace. "Day-time cleaning" also makes for better work-life balance, especially for women, who make up the majority of workers in maintenance cleaning. It reduces health risks associated with night- and shift work as well as with split work. "Day-time cleaning" helps to improve the decent work!
